TWELVE-STORY LAGRANGE-DESIGNED RENTAL DEVELOPMENT HEADED TO SUBURBAN SKOKIE

Chicago’s appetite for new rental apartments is spreading to suburban Skokie as construction kicks off on a 12-story, mixed-use high-rise at the northwest corner of Lincoln Avenue and Oakton Street.

Dubbed ‘8000 North,’ the 153-unit building represents the village’s first new ground-up downtown apartment development in decades. Its design comes from Chicago-based architecture firm Lucien Lagrange Studio and features curved balconies and teal accents evocative of the group’s project at 60 W. Erie in River North.

Developed by Greenspire Capital, Pontarelli & Company, and Hoffman Homes, the project will also include 15,000 square feet of ground floor retail space and residential amenities such as a fitness center, party room, and sun deck. An attached garage structure will contain 265 parking spaces reserved for both residential and public use.

Thursday’s ceremonial groundbreaking comes roughly eight months after 8000 North was formally unveiled and three months after Skokie’s Village Board of Trustees approved a $1.5 million land sale to the developers. The highly-visible, village-owned site has been vacant since Desiree restaurant was closed and demolished in 2013.

The 136-foot-tall development hopes to welcome its first tenants in late 2019.
